Thirty divers attended a computer/navigation program at SV. We want to thank Brian Miller for putting on a great presentation on Suunto Dive Computers. Everyone came out of the presentation with a great deal of knowledge on how computers work, and how to use the new built in digital compass. Hopefully this will be a start to many more exciting presentations.

At a recent Try Scuba event we had the pleasure of showing 80-year old Marie Altenburg (pronounced "Marry") and her grandsons Ian and Alex the world underwater. Marie was assisted by the brother diving team of Rob and Chris Altenburg, and by Scuba Venture DiveCon Tony Douventzidis.  After a pre-dive checkup, Marie’s doctor gave the ok and she was ready to dive. Rob and Tony documented the event so a video could be sent to her brothers in England. Marie really enjoyed the weightless freedom of being underwater on scuba, and was heard to say, “If I can do it, anybody can do it!”

“So we finally got to Bonaire on Monday around 3pm, 36 hours behind everyone else. Once there we had a great time! Jenn loves diving and despite losing a day we still managed to get in 17 dives. The staff at Buddy Dive were very helpful and accommodating. We called them at 4 in the morning and they assured us that there were flights from Aruba to Bonaire, this gave us the info we needed to get Continental to put us on a flight to Aruba. Since we had to stay the night in Aruba we called Buddy Dive again and they recommend a hotel. During our layover in Curacao we called Buddy Dive again to see if we could get our orientation and rental equipment once we got there. Augusto, the dive shop manager, told me that he had fish and coral waiting for us and that he would personally do the orientation! When we got to Bonaire a car was waiting that took us to Buddy Dive, we did the orientation, rented the equipment and were doing our first dive at 4:53pm. The rest of the week the diving got better and better, on one dive we saw 5 frogfish! I was really pleased to see Buddy Dive put in a little extra effort for us. I would also like to mention that Dave is a great group leader. He is very friendly, personable, and knowledgeable. Although he couldn’t dive he went on every boat dive with us and helped out with equipment. He made sure that everyone was having a good time and that all the logistical stuff was taken care of. We did a night dive at Salt Pier and Jenn had forgotten her regulators, he took Jenn back to the resort and sped her back to the dive and was prepared to snorkel her out to the rest of us, luckily Bart, the dive master, waited for them to return. I was very impressed with both Dave and the Buddy Dive staff and will glady dive with both of them again.”
